Fencing Planning Tools

Small practical tools to help you prepare the job. Use them freely before deciding whether to make an enquiry.

No name, contact details or postcode needed. Your choices stay on this page and are not sent with an enquiry or saved by these tools. Reloading clears them; exported copies stay on your device.

Straight fence run calculator

Estimate the bays and posts for one straight, uninterrupted run using your chosen post-centre spacing.

Enter the information you already know.

Assumptions and limits

  • Bays = round up(run length ÷ post-centre spacing); posts = bays + 1. The final bay may need a different width. Nominal panel width is not automatically post-centre spacing.
  • Exclude gates, changes of direction, shared corner posts, steps and separate runs; calculate each straight run separately. Check product dimensions and the site before ordering.
  • This does not specify post size, footing, fence height, boundary ownership or planning suitability.

Fence project checklist

Clarify the boundary, product and access decisions that a quantity calculation cannot settle.

Tick only items you have already checked. Unticked items become open questions.

Assumptions and limits

  • Braintree location does not settle a boundary dispute or planning requirements. The calculator does not design a fence for wind loading or security performance.

Using these notes for a Braintree job

Use the note to make the scope clearer when speaking to a business. Braintree town and the surrounding area are not one uniform property type: access, older fabric, shared assets and the relevant authorities must be checked for the address. A calculation or completed checklist does not settle those questions.

Review the fencing services for the work itself. These tools do not book work, select a provider or supply an emergency response. For an urgent situation, use the relevant service guidance and official reporting routes.

Property-specific checks: Braintree planning and building control. Confirm that the address falls within the authority’s area.

Request a fencing quote

Tell us which fence or gate needs work, its approximate dimensions and the result you want. Include the postcode, access and whether old materials need removing.

Details that help with your quote
  • New work or repair, with approximate length and desired height.
  • Materials, gates, slopes and access if known.
  • The postcode, authority for the boundary and removal or making good required.

We’re an independent enquiry service and do not carry out the work. We review your request and, with your consent, may share it with up to three suitable local businesses. An enquiry does not book work or guarantee a reply, quote or attendance.
